If you didn’t know how to operate this service, I wouldn’t blame you. It’s made for advanced users, with very few proper tutorials available. I will only tackle the confusing parts here.
Create an Archive
Go to OVH Public Cloud -> Cloud Archive and create a new container. After you’re done, you’ll get the login details.
Make sure to save the gateway address and login in your password manager.
Now, we need to make a user. On the left menu, scroll down and go to Project Management ->Users & Roles
Give user the Administrator role.
After you’re done, a password will appear in a green notification. Make sure to write it down. Then click on the three dots next to the user and download the rclone configuration file.
Now, we will assemble the backup password. Open the config file in Notepad++.
The password consists of 3 parts: tenant, user and password. Between each one there is a dot. Here is an example.
The green one is the password that was generated earlier. This password you should also save in your password manager.
Accessing Archive
Now, you can log in to via SFTP. Open FileZilla, press Ctrl + S and Enter the Credentials. Remember to set it to SFTP, not regular FTP.
Hit connect and enter the password you assembled. From there, you can start uploading your files.
A Few Considerations
You should learn rclone to properly utilize this service and remember to encrypt your files.
Only upload files you know won’t be needed for a very long time. Both download and upload are 5 times more expensive than your monthly upkeep.
After upload, your files will soon become frozen. You have to go to the OVH interface and unfreeze them before you can start downloading. You can still delete them even If they are frozen, so be careful not to do that.
Simply as is should be.
