You should generally use the stable version. Here is where to click on the developer’s website. After that, you will see a big green button you have to press.

If you’re using WinRar, it already has a built-in parity tool you can use.

Adding Parity

Parity is generally added to archives (7z, xz, zip etc.), but you can add it to any file. Launch the program and drag the file you want to add parity to, to the list.

Set the redundancy to 10%. If your files are very important, set it to 25%.

Go to “Options” and tick “Enable GPU Acceleration“. Now, you can click “Ok” and “Create“.

It may take a while for the GPU acceleration to kick in. If the file is large, go make yourself some tea. After the process is done, click verify to ensure everything’s in order.

You recover corrupted archives by launching any of the files with “.par2” extension. The program will tell you If the file has been damaged.

By all means, try it out yourself. Copy both the original file and parity data to a new folder. Open the archive in Notepad++ then delete some of its content. After you’re done, launch the .par2 file to repair it.

To Ensure Data Safety

Check your drives’ SMART status’ to see If they aren’t failing. If you’re experiencing CRC errors, while making archive – also check your PC with MemTest86.

I’ve just had a bad case of a failing RAM stick. I lost quite a bit of data. This prompted me to research data consistency and parity.
