The EU is yet again attempting to crack down on privacy. Lately, it seems like every other month, some government decides human rights don’t apply to them. This time is different, though. CSAM is one of the most sophisticated mass surveillance program ever made.
If you’re out-of-the-loop, let me remind you. Every time a politician says they just want to “protect the children”, what they actually mean is they want more power. With CSAM, they will enforce EU mandated spyware. End-to-End encryption would no longer be safe.
The EU’s arguments are straight out lies. They use fake claims like “one in five children would face sexual abuse” that are not backed up by any source. According to Tutanota, only 0.1% of the court orders they receive is regarding children. 70 – 85% of abused children know the perpetrator. CSAM surveillance is clearly unwarranted.
The EU is about to force companies to scan your ever message, email or file. This, in turn, would make applications such as Signal illegal in the EU. What’s next? Abolishing the need for warrants? CSAM is encroaching on your presumption of innocence. It’s like a police officer coming to your house every day to check If you’re not up to something naughty.
After 9/11, the US mandated secret mass surveillance programs and over the years perfected them. We are still yet to see a single terrorist attack prevented by it. All it did, was give the government all power they could ever want. Just like the President Ronald Reagan once said – “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help””.
Spread the message. Tell your EU representative you don’t want CSAM scanning your device.
On a sidenote, you know what is a real danger to your children? Bullying, which does affect one in five children. Schools are a home to a large portion of the abuse children face. Schools often make up their own Draconian laws, while ignoring crucial students’ protections. Most teachers enable bullying by overlooking the abuse. The victims are often punished while adults ignore the whole problem. We clearly have other problems to take care of.
