How to Open AVIF Images on Linux

Ubuntu, Mint and Debian-based

Install the plugin.

sudo apt install libavif-gdk-pixbuf

Right click on an AVIF file -> properties -> Open With -> set <your image viewer> as the default application.

Manjaro

You already have AVIF support.

Assign Viewnior as the default application.

Other Distros

You can either

• or compile the gdk-pixbuf plugin from source
